Delhi is getting ready to introduce a luxury cruise service on the Yamuna river from February, marking a new step in riverfront tourism development. The Delhi government has planned this project to give residents a high-quality leisure experience within the city. Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said the cruise will offer an international-style experience similar to popular tourist destinations. The service aims to make the Yamuna river more accessible to the public. It will also help improve the image of the river. Officials believe the cruise will attract both locals and tourists. The initiative is linked to the larger river rejuvenation programme. It reflects the government’s focus on urban tourism growth.
The luxury cruise will have a seating capacity of 40 passengers and will focus on comfort and safety. It will operate hour-long round trips on selected stretches of the Yamuna river. Passengers will be able to relax and enjoy modern onboard facilities. These include music, entertainment and food services. The cruise has been designed to meet international standards. Authorities said the pricing will be kept affordable for residents. The aim is to offer premium leisure at reasonable rates. This will make the experience accessible to more people.
The cruise vessel is almost complete and is currently stationed in Mumbai. Minister Kapil Mishra recently visited Mumbai to personally inspect the vessel. The cruise will be transported to Delhi around January 20. The journey from Mumbai to Delhi is expected to take three to four days. After arrival, the remaining technical work will be completed. This includes engine installation and final safety checks. Officials are working to ensure the cruise is fully ready. The goal is to meet the February launch schedule.
Once all technical work is completed, the cruise service will be officially launched in February. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is expected to inaugurate the service. The cruise will operate mainly for leisure and tourism purposes. Authorities have said the service will follow eco-friendly practices. It will help improve public engagement with the Yamuna river. The project is also expected to raise awareness about river conservation. Officials see it as a long-term tourism asset. It will add a new attraction to the city.
The luxury cruise is part of a broader plan to develop the Yamuna riverfront as a recreation and leisure hub. The government is planning water sports and recreational activities near the cruise terminal. A full leisure zone is also proposed along the river. This space is meant for families, tourists and local residents. The aim is to create a modern public area. Minister Mishra said people can enjoy a Goa-like experience within Delhi. The project focuses on affordable luxury. It is expected to boost tourism and employment.
