IndiGo has taken a big step in growing its international network by adding the Airbus A321XLR to its fleet. This makes IndiGo the first airline in India to use this new long-range aircraft. The plane arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on 7 January 2026. With this aircraft, IndiGo plans to fly longer routes that were not possible before with narrow-body planes.
Using the A321XLR, IndiGo will start direct flights to Athens. Flights from Mumbai to Athens will begin on 23 January 2026, and flights from Delhi to Athens will start on 24 January 2026. Both routes will run three times a week. These new services will make travel between India and Europe easier and faster for passengers.
The Airbus A321XLR can fly up to 8,700 km and uses fuel more efficiently. The aircraft has two classes: 12 seats in IndiGoStretch and 183 seats in Economy. The cabin is fitted with comfortable RECARO seats that offer good leg support, mobile holders, charging points, and better seat recline for a relaxed journey.
Passengers will get digital entertainment through the Bluebox system, which includes movies, TV shows, games, and anime on personal devices. Hot meals will be served free of cost, with vegetarian meals as default and non-vegetarian meals available on pre-booking. Alcoholic drinks will be free for IndiGoStretch passengers and available for purchase in Economy.
IndiGo has ordered 40 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, out of which 9 will be delivered in 2026. These planes will help the airline start more long-distance routes to Europe and East Asia. With this move, IndiGo aims to offer comfortable international travel at lower costs and strengthen India’s role as an important global aviation hub.
