After many years of planning, the new Navi Mumbai International Airport is ready to start commercial flights from Thursday. This new airport will help people save travel time, increase tourism, and bring more business and investment to the area.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the government body handling this project, said on Tuesday that on the first day, the airport will handle 30 flights, including both arrivals and departures.
The new airport will reduce the crowd and pressure at the existing Mumbai International Airport and will help create a strong two-airport system for the region.
CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal said that starting airport operations shows the Maharashtra government and CIDCO’s strong effort to improve infrastructure.
He also said this project shows their focus on future development, equal growth, and better connection with the world. He called it a proud moment for everyone who supported the project for many years.
The airport has a lotus-shaped terminal, which represents Indian culture. The terminal has been built by the Adani Group and Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL). It is designed in a way that saves energy and uses modern ideas.
The airport will help the economy of Navi Mumbai and nearby places like Pune, Thane, Panvel, Raigad, and the Konkan region by creating jobs and improving business opportunities.
People can reach the airport easily using the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), highways, local trains, and metro services.
On the first day, flights from airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air will operate. The first flight to arrive will be IndiGo flight 6E 460 from Bengaluru at 8:00 am, and the first departure will be IndiGo flight 6E 882 to Hyderabad at 8:40 am.
