Guwahati Airport Launched Its ₹4,000 Crore New Terminal on Feb 22

Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the ₹4,000-crore new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport became operational from February 22. The terminal was earlier inaugurated by Narendra Modi on December 20. It is expected that both domestic and international flights will start operating from the new terminal by March. The old terminal will be repurposed into a cargo hub, according to officials.

The integrated Terminal-2 is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually and significantly increases the airport’s capacity. The new facility covers 1,40,000 square metres and incorporates design elements inspired by Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage. The airport itself is named after Assam’s first chief minister, and an 80-foot statue of him was unveiled outside the terminal.

Officials say the upgraded airport aims to boost connectivity, tourism, and economic growth in the Northeast region. Modern amenities, improved passenger movement areas, and enhanced infrastructure are expected to improve traveler experience.
